The Darco MedSurg™ is a versatile shoe for post-operative application. It comes with a fully customizable insole that has double padding. You can remove the insole and elect to use the shoe with a PegAssist™ (PTQ Series) off-loading insole. The MedSurg™ is suitable for individuals recovering from foot surgery or a wound or who are wearing K- wires in their feet. For these individuals, the MedSurg™ offers an incomparable combination of comfort, wound protection and off loading.
The MedSurg™ shoe is equipped with a more aggressive tread in its midfoot area to increase traction. It also has a less aggressive tread design over the heel and toe areas. This reduces the risk that you may trip as a result of heel scuff or toe drag. In addition to these features, the MedSurg™ possesses an elastic strap that surrounds your ankle and functions to help prevent the shoe accidentally slipping off. Another feature is a rocker bottom sole that helps to promote wound care through a 25% reduction in plantar pressure. The rocker bottom also increases walking comfort.
The Darco MedSurg™ shoe also features a Velcro closure across its front section. This helps the shoe to accommodate bandages or bulky dressings (up to 17 inches in circumference). This closure design also results in less pressure than you would experience from the more usual D ring closure. This improves comfort, as this pressure can be a cause of forefoot irritation..
The shoe is wearable on either the right or left foot. You can also wear it on one foot and use a regular shoe on the other. It is available in sizes small, medium, large and X-Large. Please consult the size tab on this page for assistance in determining the correct size.
