Eco-Med EcoGel 200® Multi-Purpose Ultrasound Gel is a widely used medium viscosity (80,000 – 100,000 centipoise) ultrasound gel. It is an excellent candidate for ultrasound therapies or other diagnostic imaging procedures for which you require a viscous conductive medium that is also user friendly.
Medium/high viscosity gels such as the Eco-Med EcoGel 200® Multi-Purpose Ultrasound Gel are preferable for most commonly used ultrasound imaging applications. In general, it is preferable to use a gel that will remain in place during the treatment. This is especially important when imaging a sharply angled part of the body like the elbow or knee. A less viscose (or “runny”) gel like the Conductor Transmission Gel is more likely to move around on these contoured body areas. That movement can produce air bubbles which in turn can degrade ultrasound image quality.
In addition, if you need to warm the gel before use, it will have lower viscosity by the time the treatment is about to begin than at room temperature. In this situation you will tend to prefer a more viscous gel. After warming, the viscosity will likely reduce until it is in the ideal zone when the treatment starts. This is also true of a gel that needs to remain on your body for an extended period. Such a gel will lose viscosity as it reacts to your body temperature. It may therefore be better to start with a higher viscosity gel like the EcoGel 200® Multi-Purpose Ultrasound Gel.
