The Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard protects your teeth, gums and tongue without compromising comfort.  It is a triple layer design that includes an integrated breathing channel to ensure that you can wear it in comfort. The design also includes an exoskeletal shock frame for additional dental protection. Another innovative feature is its convertible quick release tether that allows you to wear it either with or without a strap.  For a tight but comfortable fit, it also has a gel fit liner.

We would suggest the Gel Max Mouthguard for you if you play sports like basketball, hockey or boxing in which there is frequent inter player contact. A flying elbow, ball or puck can result in severe dental injuries that can require thousands of dollars to treat. In addition to dental protection,  wearing a mouthgaurd can also help to reduce the risk of concussion if you suffer a direct blow to your jaw. If this happens, the mouthguard will absorb some of the force of the blow and reduce the amount of energy going to the brain. The benefits of wearing a mouthguard can are explained in detail here.

For greater wearer health, the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard is latex free, BPA free and Phthalate free. It comes in several colors, including Blue/Black, Black, Red, Orange, Purple, Blue and Pink. You can buy each color in either Adult or Youth versions.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Fill saucepan with 3 to 4 inches of water. Bring water to a rolling boil.

  • Cool mouthguard in tap water for 1-2 seconds only to bring surface temperature to a comfortable level.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard triple-layer design and "exoskeletal shock frame" actually protect my teeth and mouth?

The Shock Doctor Gel Max utilizes a sophisticated, three-layer construction engineered for multi-directional protection. The outer exoskeletal shock frame is a rigid, lab-grade material designed to absorb and redistribute high-impact forces from direct blows, such as an elbow or puck, preventing fractures and tooth displacement. This hard shell surrounds a softer, shock-absorbing inner layer that cushions the jaw joint.

Crucially, these protective layers are integrated with a comfortable gel-fit liner that molds to your teeth. This combination ensures that impact energy is managed by the mouthguard’s structure, rather than being transmitted directly to your teeth and jaw. Furthermore, the raised breathing channel built into the design prevents the guard from obstructing your airway, allowing for easier breathing and communication during intense play without compromising its defensive integrity.

Is the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard comfortable for extended wear, and how does the "gel fit liner" and breathing channel help?

Absolutely. Comfort is a primary design focus of the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard, achieved through its innovative gel-fit liner and integrated breathing channel. The gel-fit liner is a thermoplastic material that, after a simple boiling-and-molding process, conforms precisely to the unique contours of your teeth and gums. This creates a personalized, snug fit that minimizes slippage and bulk, reducing the urge to chew on the guard or remove it during play.

The integrated breathing channel is a critical feature that addresses a common complaint with mouthguards: restricted airflow. This channel creates an open pathway for air to flow over your tongue, making nasal and mouth breathing significantly easier. This design drastically reduces gagging, dry mouth, and the claustrophobic feeling some athletes experience, enabling you to wear the guard comfortably through every quarter, period, or round while maintaining peak respiratory performance.

Can you explain the convertible tether and the health benefits of the latex/BPA-free materials of the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard?

The convertible quick-release tether offers versatile attachment options to suit your sport’s requirements. For helmets used in football, lacrosse, or hockey, you can securely attach the strap for easy access and to prevent loss. For sports like basketball, soccer, or boxing where a strap is not needed or desired, it can be cleanly removed with a snap, providing a clean, unobstructed feel. This flexibility ensures the guard adapts to your specific athletic needs.

Regarding health and safety, the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouthguard is conscientiously manufactured to be free from latex, BPA, and phthalates. These materials have been linked to potential allergic reactions and other health concerns. By eliminating them, Shock Doctor ensures the product is hypoallergenic and safe for prolonged oral contact. This commitment to non-toxic materials, combined with its proven protective design, means you can focus on your performance with complete confidence in both your safety and your long-term health.
