Knee Bracing

An orthopedic knee support is a device that provides stabilization and pain relief to your knee after you have injured ligaments or other structures essential to the proper use of the joint. Ideally, it does this without immobilizing the knee or hindering its natural range of motion.

A knee support can provide several levels of stability to your knee depending on the features present. It can be a knee sleeve that provides comfortable compression. A knee sleeve will provide only moderate support but will also present minimal interference to its range of motion. Its compression will aid blood flow to your knee and thus promote recovery.

A knee strap is another type of  support that will compress the tendons surrounding the knee. This will reduce the pain of conditions such as Jumper’s Knee, for example.

If your knee brace has hinges or stays, it will be even more equipped to keep your knee properly aligned. It may also have buttresses that can keep your patella in the trochlear groove. Hinged knee braces will provide high levels of support while allowing the knee to keep as normal a range of motion as possible. Some knee braces will also provide therapeutic compression for additional healing effectiveness.
